The food here was fantastic! It's BYOB, black owned and operated, and brunch (!!). I mean, what more could you ask for? Actually, the only thing you could ask for with this location is better parking options. Word to the wise: arrive earlier than your reservation because it may take a while to find a parking space. But, when you get there, order a little bit of everything and you will not be disappointed.

I came here on one of my visits to Philadelphia. It was a BLACK owned spot. BYOB. There was only street parking available but we got lucky and was able to park right out front. I absolutely adored the fresh flowers on the table. It set the mood for a great brunch. Our waitress was super nice. I loved her glasses and she was very helpful with the menu as we were new to this place and she made awesome recommendations. I am more of a savory girl when it comes to the brunch, but the praline French toast with whip cream was * chefs kiss*. I love the artwork on the wall and the variety in the menu. While we tend to get used to the normal, same old, boring brunch menu this one was a little revamped with some razzle. Even the manager was super nice. We were sitting there talking and realize that I our food was taking a long time to come out and he offered us a free drink on the house and came over very apologetic. This is something that you're not generally used to in brunch spots because they're always super packed. We appreciated it and continue the conversation. Our food. came out shortly after. Just be mindful this place close early but it's also brunch so don't expect a dinner meal. This place gets five stars for me even with having to wait a long time for food, but because the staff and the owner was super apologetic and nice about it I can appreciate the customer service for that reason. This is on my list to return to whenever I come back to Philly .

This spot has been on my radar to try for a while. At noon on a Sunday, I figured it was going to be super busy so I opted for takeout. I ordered the mango berry tea, shrimp and grits with a side of homies. The tea was very yummy as other reviewers have noted. The shrimp was well seasoned though on the chewy side. The grits were a generous, filling portion and very cheesy. They use a creamier cheese than plain old American cheese and it was different--not good or bad. The homies were dry and lacking in flavor. They looked like they'd been under a heat lamp for too long. I found one piece that wasn't overcooked that provided a contrast with the rest. Overall, the food was decent, but did not feel like it was worth the $35 I paid for it.

Instagram definitely makes the place look bigger than it actually is but where they lack space they make up for it in service and flavor! My partner got the golden bowl which was grits with shrimp, salmon and lamb chops. She subbed salmon for catfish. I got the oxtails and grits. Both dishes were amazing!! I would've liked my oxtails a bit more tender but the flavor profile was there. Service was great and I loved the complimentary mimosa. Try one of their specialty lemonades as well. I had the peach lavender. Glad I got a chance to visit before leaving the east coast. Definitely worth the drive from Maryland.

Today felt like my lucky day because I was able to get a table (the first time I came the wait was too long for me). Once we were seated the hostess gave us menus and it didn't take long for us to order - I ordered a Mango Berry Tea... Let me note that it was soooo good that I ordered a 2nd; it is rare for me to even finish 1 flavored drink, so that's how good this tea was for me ;-) I also ordered the Blueberry Lemon Jawn French toast and a side of fried whiting; hubby ordered chicken and waffles with a bourbon sauce on the side... Everything was so good that both of us cleared our plates. The French toast was different from anything that I've ever had - the texture, flavor and presentation were on point (same for all other dishes); also, everything came out hot and was cooked to perfection. What made this experience even better for me was the service - the staff here were great! We didn't need to flag anyone down because they were constantly checking on us and keeping us updated. And they were sooo pleasant! I can't wait to return to try some other menu items. Almost forgot, the ambiance is nice too - this spot is trendy but laid back with a great soulful playlist.

This was my first time trying Toast Cafe. I would say this place is very good with room for improvement. They've only been open for about 6 months it seems. Its a small venue, 30 people can sit down between tables and bar area seating. The music is definitely pretty loud so conversations get noisy fast if it's packed. The decor is really nice though! As far as the food and service, I got the fried whiting (fish) and grits. The grits were cheesy (which I liked) but could have been cooked a little longer for a more creamy texture. The fish however was cooked a little too long and was over done so it was too crunchy. They had nice plating and presentation. I did overhear other people say they had some inconsistencies in temperature but my food was hot. The service was friendly but it definitely takes a little longer than normal from ordering to delivery at the table. Overall I will definitely look to come back and try them again once they've settled down into a routine and can handle different pace of crowds. Bonus points because it's a black woman owned establishment. If you're in the area, bring your patience and give them a try.

Everything about this place is excellent; the service, the food, the vibe. Our server brought huge mugs of delicious La Colombe coffee. There even was an array of choices for cream and sugar....so try the brown sugar oat milk cream. I had catfish and grits and it was a huge portion, enough to take home. The catfish was fried to perfection and did not get mushy in the grits. The grits were cheesy and savory not needing anything extra. Try it, you will not be disappointed.
